Choosing Wood Flooring for a Santa Monica Home

    European white oak

European white oak is a favorite for its calm grain, wide planks and light, natural tones that suit both beach cottages and modern remodels. It is available as engineered planks and in patterns such as herringbone. See finishes and widths on our European white oak page.

    Engineered or solid hardwood?

Both are real wood. Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through the whole plank. Engineered hardwood has a real wood wear layer glued to a layered core, which makes it more dimensionally stable when humidity changes, a practical advantage close to the coast. Compare both types in our hardwood guide.

    Concrete slab or raised subfloor?

Many homes and condos, especially newer buildings, sit on a concrete slab. On a slab, engineered hardwood is the usual choice, glued down or floated. Over a raised wood subfloor, solid or engineered can both work. We check your subfloor during the in-home estimate and explain the installation method before you decide.

    Stairs and transitions

If your home has stairs, we can match treads and risers to the new floor so the hardwood runs continuously from room to room.

    Material only or fully installed

Some clients have their own installer and only need the flooring. Others want one team for everything. We do both, for residential and commercial projects. Learn more about our hardwood installation.

    Vinyl, Laminate and Remodels

Hardwood is our focus, but not every room needs it. For kitchens, bathrooms and busy family areas we also supply and install waterproof vinyl plank and laminate flooring. When the floor is part of a bigger project, we handle remodel work too, including kitchen cabinets, countertops and bathroom remodels.

Hardwood flooring installer in Santa Monica: who installs your floors?

Glamour Flooring is a hardwood flooring installer serving Santa Monica. We are a licensed flooring contractor (CSLB #1005283) with a showroom at 21030 Victory Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91367, and we supply and install engineered and solid hardwood, including wide-plank European white oak. Call (818) 963-0878 to book an in-home visit. We bring flooring samples to your home.

How does hardwood floor installation work?

    1. In-home visit and measure. We bring flooring samples to your home, measure your rooms and check the subfloor.
    2. Subfloor and moisture check. A concrete slab gets a moisture test before we quote. On a slab we install engineered hardwood; over a raised wood subfloor, solid or engineered boards can be nailed down.
    3. Written quote. Installation is quoted in writing after we measure, and the quote lists each part of the job on its own line.
    4. Removal. We remove and haul away the old flooring.
    5. Prep and leveling. We level the subfloor, and the wood acclimates to your home per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
    6. Installation. Nail-down, glue-down or floating, based on your subfloor and product. On a concrete slab, engineered hardwood is usually glued down.
    7. Trim and stairs. Transitions, baseboard and vents, plus stair treads, risers and nosing, planned with the floor so it looks seamless from room to room.
    8. Walkthrough. We go over the finished floor with you before we call it done.

What affects the cost of hardwood installation?

Hardwood floors from $3.49/sq ft, material only. Installation is quoted in writing after we measure your rooms and check the subfloor. The total depends on:

    • The floor you choose: solid or engineered, species, plank width and length, grade, wear layer and finish
    • Pattern: a straight lay, or herringbone and chevron, which need more extra material for cuts
    • Square footage and room layout, including closets, halls and transitions
    • Removing and hauling away the old floor
    • Subfloor leveling, and any moisture work a concrete slab needs
    • Installation method: nail-down, glue-down or floating
    • Stairs: treads, risers and nosing
    • Transitions, door clearances and baseboard

Delivery available, charged separately based on job site location and project size. For a deeper breakdown, see our guide to what sets hardwood flooring prices.

What to compare in an engineered wood floor

DetailWhat we carry and how it matters
Wear layer2mm, 4mm and 6mm options in European white oak. The wear layer decides whether the floor can be sanded and refinished later, and how many times.
Plank widthEuropean white oak from 7.5″ to 13″ wide. Wide planks are usually engineered, because a wide solid board moves more with humidity.
    Thickness1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″ and 3/4″ profiles.
InstallationOn a concrete slab: glued down or floated after a moisture test. Over a raised wood subfloor: nailed or glued down.
Species and finishOak, including European white oak, plus hickory, maple and walnut, in natural, wire-brushed and custom-stained finishes. See how hard each species is.

    Condos and HOA sound rules

In a condo, the underlayment matters as much as the floor. Many HOA buildings have sound rules for hard floors, so ask your HOA for its flooring requirements before the estimate. We match the underlayment to your HOA’s sound rules and plan the installation method around your subfloor.

    Living near the beach

Sand tracked in on shoes works like sandpaper on a floor finish. Breathable mats at the entries, felt pads under furniture and regular dry mopping keep it off the boards. Our hardwood floor care guide covers the routine.

    Santa Monica Hardwood Flooring FAQ

Do you have a showroom in Santa Monica?

No. Our only showroom is in Woodland Hills at 21030 Victory Blvd, about 22 miles by car from Santa Monica. For Santa Monica projects we come to you for the estimate. We bring flooring samples to your home.

Who handles my project from estimate to installation?

We do. Glamour Flooring measures, helps you choose the floor, supplies the material and installs it as a licensed flooring contractor, so one team is responsible from start to finish.

Can I buy hardwood flooring without installation?

Yes. You can buy material only or have us install it. Delivery available, charged separately based on job site location and project size.

Is engineered or solid hardwood better for my home?

It depends mostly on the subfloor. On a concrete slab, engineered hardwood is the usual choice. Over a raised wood subfloor, solid or engineered can both work. We check during the in-home estimate.

Do you install vinyl and laminate too?

Yes. Hardwood is our focus, but we also supply and install waterproof vinyl plank and laminate, for residential and commercial projects.

    Do you offer financing?

12 Month Interest Free Financing *On Approved Credit*. Call for Details: (818) 963-0878.

What happens at the in-home estimate?

We measure the rooms, check the subfloor and talk through hardwood, waterproof vinyl and laminate options. We bring flooring samples to your home, then leave you a written quote.

Can I see a floor in person before the estimate?

Yes. Call (818) 963-0878 before you come and we can tell you whether we have a matching sample at our Woodland Hills showroom, 21030 Victory Blvd.

How long does a hardwood installation take?

It depends on the square footage, what has to come out and how much subfloor prep is needed. For example, an Encino job of about 600 sq ft, with tile and carpet removal and slab leveling, took two days. We give you a schedule with your quote.

Can you install vinyl or laminate in the kitchen and hardwood elsewhere?

Yes. Many homes mix floors: hardwood in living areas and waterproof vinyl in kitchens and baths. We plan the transitions and our crew does both vinyl plank installation and laminate installation.

How much does hardwood flooring cost in Santa Monica?

Hardwood floors start at $3.49/sq ft, material only. Installation is quoted in writing after we measure your rooms and check the subfloor. The total depends on the floor you choose, the square footage, removing the old floor, subfloor prep, stairs and trim. Delivery available, charged separately based on job site location and project size.

Which engineered hardwood works in a condo?

Many condos sit on a concrete slab, so we install engineered hardwood, glued down or floated after a moisture test. Many HOA buildings also have sound rules for hard floors, and we match the underlayment to your HOA’s sound rules. A thicker wear layer, 4mm or 6mm, leaves more room to refinish later.
