Choosing Luxury Vinyl Plank

Waterproof vinyl plank is the floor to choose when water is part of daily life. Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, homes with pets and kids: spills sit on the surface instead of soaking into a seam. It installs over most existing subfloors and comes with matching stair nosing when the run continues up a staircase. Compare SPC and WPC vinyl plank.

Vinyl is not hardwood and we do not market it as such. It is a wood-look wear layer over a waterproof core, and its advantage is exactly that — the look of wood in rooms where real wood is the wrong specification. For genuine wood, see our European white oak and engineered hardwood.

Luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, gives you the look of wood with a vinyl wear layer that stands up to spills, pets and daily traffic. You'll find two main core types here: rigid SPC for the firmest, most dent-resistant floor, and softer WPC for a warmer, quieter feel. There are also glue-down vinyl planks for areas where a thin, low-profile floor works best. Glue-down vinyl needs a smooth, flat subfloor, and we prepare it during installation. Ask us which type suits each room, see options in our Woodland Hills showroom, or let us bring samples to your free in-home estimate.

Is vinyl plank good for bathrooms?

Many vinyl planks are rated for bathrooms and laundry rooms, but not for showers or other wet areas. Check the manufacturer's rating on each product.
