Why the waste factor matters
Nobody installs exactly the square footage of their floor. Planks get cut at walls, and the offcuts are not always reusable. A straight-lay installation in simple rectangular rooms needs a modest overage. A diagonal layout needs more. Herringbone and chevron need the most, because nearly every board around the perimeter is cut at an angle.

Is the in-home measurement really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the appointment and no obligation to buy anything afterwards.
How long does it take?
It depends on how many rooms are involved. A single room is quick; a whole house with stairs takes longer. We will give you a time estimate when you book so you can plan your day.
Do I need to choose my flooring first?
No. Many homeowners measure first so they know what quantity they are pricing. If you would like to look at materials during the same visit, just ask us to bring samples.
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
Not for the measurement — we work around furniture. Moving furniture is part of the conversation for installation day, not measuring day.
What happens if my subfloor has a problem?
We tell you what we found and what it means for your project. Uneven subfloors, moisture in a slab, and old adhesive all affect what can be installed and what preparation is needed. Finding it now is far better than finding it on installation day.
Can I just give you my square footage over the phone?
You can, and we can give you a rough idea from it. But we would not want you ordering material on that basis — closets, transitions and layout waste are exactly what a phone number misses.
