Johnson Hardwood Alehouse Hefeweizen

Overview

From Johnson Hardwood’s Alehouse line, Hefeweizen is a Maple engineered hardwood. Alehouse’s vintage surface is done by hand: bevelled edges, filled checks, random wire-brushing and a multi-layer stain that darkens at the edges on planks up to seven feet long. Johnson describes Hefeweizen as having a light color tone, high variation from plank to plank and a semi gloss level. Dimensions: 7-1/2″ wide, 1/2″ thick, 2.0mm top layer. Length: Most in 7/LF. Surface: wire-brushed; finish: 11 step, aluminum oxide; edge: full bevel. Installation: staple, cleat, glue, float. Where it can go: on-grade, above-grade and below-grade (per Johnson). Johnson lists a 35-year limited residential warranty. Manufacturer item number: AME-AHM19002. Visit our Woodland Hills showroom to see Hefeweizen in person, or request pricing and availability.

Color and Appearance

Johnson lists Hefeweizen as a light color tone with high color variation between planks, and a wire-brushed surface. Because it is real wood, every plank is different. Johnson does not publish a written color description, so we recommend seeing it in person in our showroom or at home before you decide.

Construction

Engineered construction pairs a real hardwood wear layer with a cross-layered core. It moves less than solid wood through Southern California’s dry Santa Ana winds and seasonal humidity changes, and Johnson rates it for on-, above- and below-grade installs. The 2.0mm top layer can typically be lightly screened and recoated, and thicker wear layers allow sanding; ask us what is possible for this floor.

Installation

Our crews check your subfloor for moisture and flatness and install to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Johnson lists these methods: Staple, Cleat, Glue, Float. We choose nail-down, glue-down or floating based on your subfloor and rooms. Learn more about our hardwood flooring installation.
