Overview

From Johnson Hardwood’s Grand Chateau line, Valer is a European Oak engineered hardwood. Grand Chateau is wide, long European oak in clean, modern shades created with mild whitewashing and a multi-step hand stain, letting the grain do the work. Johnson lists Valer with a light color tone, high variation from plank to plank and a matte gloss level. Plank size: 8-5/8″ wide, 9/16″ thick, 3.0mm top layer. Lengths: Random. Surface: light wire-brushed; finish: UV cured urethane; edge: bevel. Installation: staple, cleat, glue, float. Where it can go: on-grade, above-grade and below-grade (per Johnson). Color and Appearance

Johnson lists Valer as a light color tone with high color variation between planks, and a light wire-brushed surface. Because it is real wood, every plank is different. Johnson does not publish a written color description, so we recommend seeing it in person in our showroom or at home before you decide.

Construction

Engineered construction pairs a real hardwood wear layer with a cross-layered core. It moves less than solid wood through Southern California’s dry Santa Ana winds and seasonal humidity changes, and Johnson rates it for on-, above- and below-grade installs. The 3.0mm top layer can typically be lightly screened and recoated, and thicker wear layers allow sanding; ask us what is possible for this floor.
