Cognac: a stained Hermitage oak with a thick 6mm wear layer

Cognac is a color in the Hermitage Collection, a European oak engineered floor in 9″ planks. Its two selling points are a 6mm wear layer and a Select & Better grade, a cleaner look than rustic oak.

Look and design

Hermitage lists Cognac's color treatment as stained. Select & Better grading keeps knots and dramatic marks to a minimum, so the color reads evenly across a room. Boards come in random lengths up to 7′. The manufacturer publishes no color description, so compare it in person, especially beside cabinetry or stair parts you plan to match.

Construction and specs

It is 5/8″ thick with a 6mm European oak wear layer. Hermitage describes the core as a two-layer solid core, and the finish is UV-cured urethane. Each box covers 26 sq ft.

Where it works best

Family rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, halls and home offices. Matching stair nosing, T-molding, threshold, reducer and quarter round are available, which helps on stairs and room transitions.
