Hardwood Flooring Cost in Los Angeles

Hardwood floors at Glamour Flooring start from $3.49/sq ft, material only. Installation is priced separately, after we measure and check the subfloor, because the total depends on your home as much as on the floor: the product you choose, your square footage plus the extra for cuts and patterns, removal of the old floor, subfloor and moisture work, stairs, transitions and delivery.

Start with an accurate square footage

Every flooring price is quoted per square foot, so the measurement drives everything. Measure each room's length and width at the longest points, multiply, and add closets and hallways that get the same floor. Add rooms separately rather than measuring the house as one box, because walls, islands and built-ins come out. Then expect your quote to order more material than the bare floor area: boards have to be cut at walls, doorways and corners, and herringbone and chevron layouts use more cuts than straight planks. We measure on site so the order covers the cuts your rooms actually need.

What moves the material price

Two floors that look similar in a photo can be priced very differently. These are the specifications that make the difference:

SpecificationWhat to compareWhy it matters
ConstructionSolid or engineeredEngineered is the usual choice on concrete slabs; solid needs a wood subfloor
SpeciesOak, hickory, maple, walnut and othersSupply, color and hardness differ by species
Wear layerThickness in millimeters (engineered)A thicker wear layer allows more sanding over the floor's life
Plank width and lengthInches wide, feet longWide, long boards need larger, cleaner logs
GradePrime (cleaner) or character (more knots and variation)Changes the look and how much of each log is usable
FinishPrefinished, wire-brushed, custom stainFactory finishes go in faster; custom colors add steps
PatternStraight plank, herringbone, chevronPatterns need more cuts and layout time

When you compare quotes, compare these specifications line by line. A lower price per square foot sometimes means a thinner wear layer, a shorter plank or a different grade.

What moves the installation price

The installation side depends on the house: what's coming out, what's underneath, and how much detail work there is. Concrete slabs need moisture testing and sometimes a moisture-control layer; uneven floors need leveling; stairs, transitions and baseboards are priced as their own items. We've laid out the line items on our installation quotes so you know what to look for. Delivery available, charged separately based on job site location and project size. Next-Day Install / Delivery Available on Most Products.

Think about cost over the life of the floor

The cheapest floor today isn't always the cheapest over 20 years. A hardwood floor with a usable wear layer can be recoated, and in many cases sanded and refinished, instead of replaced. On engineered floors, the wear layer thickness sets how many times that's possible. Simple habits, such as felt pads, mats at entries and keeping water off the floor, protect the finish and push that work further out.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Is the price material only, or material and installation?
  • Exactly which product, wear layer, width and grade is quoted?
  • How much extra material is included for cuts and patterns?
  • Are removal, haul-away, leveling and moisture work included or extra?
  • Is the slab or subfloor tested before the price is final?
  • Are stairs, transitions, baseboards and delivery listed?
  • Who does the installation, and is that installer licensed?
  • Is the contractor licensed? You can check any license on the CSLB website.

Ways to manage the budget

  • Choose the spec that matters to you. A character grade or a narrower plank can keep a premium species within budget.
  • Ask about current specials. Our hardwood flooring specials change with stock.
  • Buy material only if you already have an installer; we sell material without installation.

Browse our hardwood selection by species and style, including European white oak in widths up to 13 inches, to narrow the product before you get a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Does $3.49/sq ft include installation?

No. Hardwood floors start from $3.49/sq ft, material only. Installation is priced separately, after we measure and check the subfloor, and prices vary by product.

How do I get an exact price for my home?

Book an in-home consultation. We measure, check the subfloor or slab, and give you a written quote that lists the material and each installation item separately.

Why do two hardwood quotes for the same rooms differ so much?

Usually because they quote different products or different scope. Compare the species, wear layer, plank size and grade, and check whether removal, leveling, moisture work, stairs, transitions and delivery are included.

Do herringbone and chevron floors cost more?

Usually, because pattern layouts need more cuts, more material for those cuts, and more layout time. We plan the pattern room by room and include it in your written quote.

Do you charge for delivery?

Delivery available, charged separately based on job site location and project size.

Can I buy hardwood flooring without installation?

Yes. You can buy material only and use your own installer, or have us install it as your licensed flooring contractor. Call (818) 963-0878 to check a product.
